notes
  • on the design:

Peaces 7 & 8 were meant to be comparable to Peace 9. I tied and dyed them all the same, but P9 was tied and dyed while wet (hand wrung), while P7 & P8, were (mostly) dry when tied. After tying, I sprayed them down with a misting of soda ash water.

  • on the final product:

The patterns on P7 and P8 are much sharper and there was less dye penetration between layers compared to P9. I did expect that to happen from previous experiments. Regarding the dye-fastness: the dry(ish) P7 & P8 are both significantly lighter than the wet-dyed P9. I wish I had dyed on of the shirts using no soda ash water at all as a benchmark. While I think the look is unique, I'm going to stick with the standard procedure of soaking shirts in soda ash before dyeing.
