notes
  • on the design:

Peaces 20 and 21 were made a year before '''peacewhere''' was first hatched. These peaces made up an experiment to test how the dampness of the shirt at the time of dyeing would effect the richness and sharpness of dyed patches. Peace 20 was soaked in soda ash solution then wrung out, while Peace 21 had been previously soaked in soda ash solution and left to completely dry.

  • on the final product:

Peace 21, the dry shirt in this experiment , has very rich black patches with sharp edges and no colored fringe. The heart in the center is slightly lighter with blurrier edges than patches on the rest of the shirt. This is likely because I used extra dye in this area and completely saturated the region. The result appears like a "coffee ring" effect with a lighter region on the inside and a darker perimeter. Also, the cleavage of the heart is not well defined and looks kind of like a baseball diamond. Perfect for lovers of that classic pastime.
